February 06, 2020

Due to a medical situation that occurred on campus today, we placed our middle and high school campuses in a hold. As the situation occurred right before a passing period, students were in their third period class for extended time today. As always, we are endeavoring to err on the side of caution for all of our students and to protect the privacy and security of students involved in the situation.

A Note From The Superintendent…
Periodically, situations arise on our campuses that call for the assistance of
outside emergency personnel. Sometimes students are held in their classrooms
for a brief amount of time to avoid onlookers and protect the privacy of the
individual(s) involved. These situations do not pose a threat to the student body
or staff, but rather an inconvenience. Parents who may be arriving to or leaving
from a campus may be asked to wait to allow the situation to be resolved before
resuming their path. Please know that if a situation evolves that poses a concern
for the safety and security of our students, we will notify parents of the event(s)
that transpired. Our students’ safety is a priority. Simultaneously, we work to
protect their privacy and preserve their dignity in their times of need.

The US Surgeon General has declared that vaping is now a epidemic among teens. It is illegal for both teens and adults to vape/smoke on school grounds. Marion ISD has zero tolerance for participation in this activity. Students who sell, give, deliver, possess, or use the substance or are in possession of paraphernalia associated with these items will receive consequences such as ISS, OSS, or DAEP placement depending on number of occurrences and persistence with the problem.
